La transizione tecnologica nelle produzioni vitree in Italia: una revisione con nuovi dati per l’Italia meridionale

The paper summarises the preliminary archaeometric results of an interdisciplinary project on the production, circulation and trade of glass in southern Italy between the 4th and 11th centuries, the conclusions of which are collected in the book ‘Glass in Transition (4th-12th centuries). Production and trade in southern Italy and the Adriatic” (edited by A. Coscarella, E. Neri, G. Noyé). After the presentation of the state of the art on the period of technological transition in Italy, an overview of the LA-ICP-MS analyses of ca 200 samples are discussed. This synthetic discussion underlines the continuity of natron glass production until the 11th century and the direct connection with the Arab and Byzantine East, indicated respectively by the presence of the compositional groups Egypt I-Egypt II and HiLiB.
