Pisa Cathedral/Form and structure of the drum

The transition from the rectangular plan of the crossing to the irregular octagonal one, apparently achieved by means of pendentives, is actually made up of a complex system of arches with connected springers. With respect to a similar complex construction and differences in material choices , the geometric control capacity demonstrated by the builders in the shift from the rectangular base to the elliptical top of the drum should also be pointed out.
