Multidisciplinary scholarship on the illiberal government in Hungary tends to focus on legal, economic, or geopolitical features of the „System of National Cooperation” created by Viktor Orbán since 2010. This chapter aims at broadening this debate by focusing on search for cultural hegemony through systematic takeover of public schools and universities. The authoriarian control of the academic and artistic sphere makes it possible to marginalize any possible alternatives at home, and to transform conservative values shared by right-wing movements worldwide into a new national mainstream.

Abstract
Multidisciplinary scholarship on the illiberal government in Hungary tends to focus on legal, economic, or geopolitical features of the „System of National Cooperation” created by Viktor Orbán since 2010. This chapter aims at broadening this debate by focusing on search for cultural hegemony through systematic takeover of public schools and universities. The authoriarian control of the academic and artistic sphere makes it possible to marginalize any possible alternatives at home, and to transform conservative values shared by right-wing movements worldwide into a new national mainstream.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
