This study explores the anachronism in translation, focusing on the term "disio" (desire) in Dante's "Divine Comedy". The term has a vast semantic range, leading to diverse interpretations in French translations over time, from literal renderings to psychological adaptations. The paper investigates how these translation choices are influenced by deeper enunciative structures, particularly modality, which reflects how desire is expressed in the text. Using a combined qualitative-quantitative approach, the study applies Correspondence Factor Analysis (CFA) to analyze lexical choices and global patterns of modality across fifty-seven French translations of Dantes's Purgatorio, exploring how these evolve over time.

Abstract
This study explores the anachronism in translation, focusing on the term "disio" (desire) in Dante's "Divine Comedy". The term has a vast semantic range, leading to diverse interpretations in French translations over time, from literal renderings to psychological adaptations. The paper investigates how these translation choices are influenced by deeper enunciative structures, particularly modality, which reflects how desire is expressed in the text. Using a combined qualitative-quantitative approach, the study applies Correspondence Factor Analysis (CFA) to analyze lexical choices and global patterns of modality across fifty-seven French translations of Dantes's Purgatorio, exploring how these evolve over time.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
