The Virgolone is a megastructure built in the 1970s within the Pilastro in Bologna, an IACP neigh- borhood designed in 1959. Given the social problems that immediately characterized the neighbor- hood, in 1975 the inhabitants obtained from the municipality the possibility of reaching an urban planning variance for the village. The paper investigates how the inhabitants’ yearning for a social improvement of the area influenced the Virgolone’s architectural design.
