Si prendono in esame i giudizi espressi sulle opere di Luigi Pulci (e soprattutto sul Morgante) da parte di letterati fiorentini del Cinquecento. This essay explores some key moments of Pulci's fluctuating fortunes among sixteenth-century Florentine intellectuals and audiences, including Varchi's derision, Corbinelli's affection, Lasca's emulation, Salviati’s defences, Morgante's enduring popular success (in print and in performance), and the reactions to the censorship of the Index.
