Ancora sulla casa di borgo Pinti di Giuliano e Antonio da Sangallo

La casa che Giuliano e Antonio da Sangallo costruiscono alla fine del Quattrocento come propria abitazione in borgo Pinti a Firenze, e dove i due fratelli raccolgono la propria collezione di opere d'arte e di antichità, è un edificio di grande interesse sia da un punto di vista architettonico che come testimonianza precoce del genere delle dimore d'artista. Nonostante questo, finora ha ricevuto scarsa attenzione, in parte per i fraintendimenti che hanno travisato la lettura e l'interpretazione dei suoi spazi. Facendo seguito a un precedente lavoro pubblicato dall'autore nel 2017, nel quale si tracciava la storia costruttiva della casa, il saggio offre un contributo alla piena comprensione della casa e dei suoi ambienti, grazie all'uso combinato dei documenti e di una serie di indagini sulle strutture materiali dell'edificio, condotte anche con l'ausilio di strumentazioni avanzate (laser scanner e fotocamera termografica). La rilettura di un inventario cinquecentesco della casa e l'interpretazione di uno schizzo anonimo coevo che ne descrive la pianta, entrambi pubblicati recentemente, hanno consentito di individuare posizione e uso degli ambienti originari, mentre l'esame metrico e termografico ha permesso di mettere in luce alcuni elementi architettonici scomparsi a seguito delle ristrutturazioni sei-settecentesche, tra i quali la loggia sul giardino, e di chiarire il processo progettuale. La discussione sugli aspetti progettuali, in particolare, aiuta a far luce sul metodo di lavoro di Giuliano e sulle sue ricerche attorno al tema della villa, confermando lo stretto legame tra quest'opera e la villa di Poggio a Caiano. The house that Giuliano and Antonio da Sangallo built in the late 15th century as their own home in Borgo Pinti in Florence, and where the two brothers gathered their collection of works of art and antiquities, is a building of great interest both from an architectural point of view and as an early testimony to the genre of artist's residences. Despite this, it has so far received little attention, in part due to misunderstandings that have misrepresented the reading and interpretation of its spaces. Following up on a previous work published by the author in 2017, in which the construction history of the house was traced, this essay offers a contribution to the full understanding of the house and its rooms, thanks to the combined use of documents and a series of investigations of the building's material structures, conducted also with the help of advanced instrumentation (laser scanner and thermographic camera). The re-reading of a sixteenth-century inventory of the house and the interpretation of a contemporary anonymous sketch describing its plan, both recently published, have made it possible to identify the location and use of the original rooms, while metric and thermographic examination has brought to light some architectural elements that disappeared as a result of the seventeenth-eighteenth-century renovations, including the loggia over the garden, and to clarify the design process. The discussion of design aspects, in particular, helps shed light on Giuliano's working method and his research around the villa theme, confirming the close link between this work and the villa at Poggio a Caiano.
