Una stanza oraziana (carm. 4, 2, 37-40) e i suoi modelli: un esercizio di lettura

This article shows that Hor. carm. 4, 2, 37-40 depends on two Ciceronian versions (a translation and a paraphrase) of the same passage from Plato’s Timaeus (47a 7-b 2). Horace ‘contaminates’ the translation (Cic. Tim. 52) with the paraphrase (Cic. Ac. 1, 7) but also alludes to their common model (i.e. to Plato’s ipsissima verba). Furthermore, the article suggests a ‘diagnostic’ conjecture on a fragment of Cicero’s Hortensius that is modelled on the same passage from Plato’s Timaeus.
