The chapter explores the concept of ECEs and their impact on future generations, emphasising the importance of inter-generational equity as a principle of international law. The chapter discusses the definition of future generations, distinguishing between unborn children and current youth, and examines whether future generations can be considered rights holders. It argues that while unborn children may not realistically hold rights, present generations have responsibilities towards future generations. By adopting an intersectional approach, the chapter advocates for targeted measures that address the diverse vulnerabilities within future generations, aiming to enhance the effectiveness of policies combating ECEs.
