The essay focuses primarily on the political and epistemological relevance of Abdelmalek Sayad's sociology of migration, in combination with Bourdieu's conception of the state as state thought, considering migrants' practices as an integral part of a theory of the state and migrants as the unthought limit of the nation-state. It then shows how such practices are objectively political and deconstruct the (almost) ontological link between state and nation. Finally, it emphasises how Sayad's approach, closely related to some of the conceptualisations of Hannah Arendt and Hans Kelsen, is useful for a radicalisation of democratic practice.
