Between 1921 and 1925, Italy experienced a sharp rise in duels driven by political motivations. For various reasons, the Great War had marked the end of the popularity of duels of honor among the general bourgeois public, but in the heated climate of the Fascist rise to power, numerous clashes occurred between Fascists and members of other political parties. This report focuses on two particularly significant and emblematic cases: the duel involving Alfredo Rocco, future Minister of Justice during the Fascist regime and a key architect of the new Penal Code, and the (never realized) duel involving Piero Gobetti, a nonconformist intellectual and a central figure in the anti-Fascist movement.

Abstract
Between 1921 and 1925, Italy experienced a sharp rise in duels driven by political motivations. For various reasons, the Great War had marked the end of the popularity of duels of honor among the general bourgeois public, but in the heated climate of the Fascist rise to power, numerous clashes occurred between Fascists and members of other political parties. This report focuses on two particularly significant and emblematic cases: the duel involving Alfredo Rocco, future Minister of Justice during the Fascist regime and a key architect of the new Penal Code, and the (never realized) duel involving Piero Gobetti, a nonconformist intellectual and a central figure in the anti-Fascist movement.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
