Brevi note sul rapporto tra cartografia e guerra

Il contributo propone una panoramica critica su alcuni momenti significativi del rapporto tra cartografia e attività militare, dalle note testimonianze di Erodoto e Vegezio, all'avvento dell'artiglieria, alla nascita dei primi corpi militari specializzati, all'istituzionalizzazione della produzione cartografica e alle vicende della Grande Guerra. This contribution offers a critical overview of some significant moments in the relationship between cartography and military activities, from the well-known testimonies of Herodotus and Vegetius, to the advent of artillery, to the birth of the first specialized military corps, to the institutionalization of cartographic production and the events of the Great War.
