This article analyzes paragraph 53 of the first series of the Hittite Laws (CTH 291), comparing it with LSU 3, which describes a dispute over a landed property granted by the king to a figure named Inara. From this comparison, it emerges that the laws reflected existing legal practices of the Anatolian region at the time when Hittite dominance was being established, as the exercise of kingship imposed new rules.
