The author emphasizes that the current environmental emergency requires a reversal of perspective on the culture-nature relationship, as it has consolidated in Western culture, as well as on the unique principle of production within which it has been established. Production, conceived as a potentially unlimited action, must be countered by the essential materiality of a suddenly limited and vulnerable biological and environmental system. It is in this sense that it is now possible, indeed urgent, to consider the living environment as a limit, as well as a resource to be exploited or continually strained.
