Nel laboratorio di Pirandello. Il figlio cambiato

Il saggio si propone di ricostruire, partendo dal caso della novella 'Il figlio cambiato', il costante processo di familiarizzazione di Pirandello con presenze medianiche e il graduale approfondimento delle tradizioni folcloristiche siciliane. Seguendo le stratigrafie redazionali della novella e la circolarità dei materiali tra generi diversi, è analizzata la storia di «certi spiriti della notte, streghe dell'aria», che accompagna Pirandello per tutta la vita e testimonia, nei molteplici salti testuali e mutazioni di forma, una lunga fedeltà a se stesso e, soprattutto, alle proprie radici. This essay aims to reconstruct, taking the short story 'Il figlio cambiato' as its starting point, Pirandello’s ongoing engagement with mediumistic phenomena and his gradual exploration of Sicilian folk traditions. By tracing the narrative layers of the novella and the circulation of material across different genres, this study examines the story of ‘certain spirits of the night, witches of the air’, a theme that accompanied Pirandello throughout his life and which, through its many textual shifts and changes in form, bears witness to his enduring fidelity to himself and, above all, to his roots.
