While investigating salt production in Hittite Anatolia (Carnevale and Torri 2022), my attention was drawn to the goddess Iyaya, mentioned in the cult inventory text KUB 38.1+ IV 1–7 in connection with the city Lapana. Although Iyaya is well known in Hittite studies, none of her attestations— including this passage and all other related sources—have been thoroughly analyzed. Examining them together raises important questions about the relationship between economic activities and local cults, as well as the mechanisms through which regional deities were integrated into the broader Hittite religious framework.

Abstract
While investigating salt production in Hittite Anatolia (Carnevale and Torri 2022), my attention was drawn to the goddess Iyaya, mentioned in the cult inventory text KUB 38.1+ IV 1–7 in connection with the city Lapana. Although Iyaya is well known in Hittite studies, none of her attestations— including this passage and all other related sources—have been thoroughly analyzed. Examining them together raises important questions about the relationship between economic activities and local cults, as well as the mechanisms through which regional deities were integrated into the broader Hittite religious framework.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
