Considering the diverse functions of geographical names, the paper proposes a reflection on the moral relevance of place names as agents of "identity," but also as stereotypes and derogatory, denigrating, contemptuous, dishonorable, offensive, harmful, and defamatory adjectives. In light of this, the paper proposes the need for a code of ethics for toponymy, taking into account the recommendations of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names and current best practices in the field. This code aims to provide public institutions that perform onomaturgical functions with general principles based on respect for the environment, people, and their cultures.

Abstract
Considering the diverse functions of geographical names, the paper proposes a reflection on the moral relevance of place names as agents of "identity," but also as stereotypes and derogatory, denigrating, contemptuous, dishonorable, offensive, harmful, and defamatory adjectives. In light of this, the paper proposes the need for a code of ethics for toponymy, taking into account the recommendations of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names and current best practices in the field. This code aims to provide public institutions that perform onomaturgical functions with general principles based on respect for the environment, people, and their cultures.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
