This essay aims to show how the renewal of the plastic-figurative arts developed in Russian between 1910-1930 was generated by a tight and strong comparison with the art of Russian icon. In fact, the icon, rediscovered in its very ancient core at the beginning of 20th century, did not draw only the attention of all those who wanted to promote art beside the traditional academic borders, but imposed itself in the Russian background in the light of a theological dispute which influenced the aesthetic debate between the different streams of Russian Avantgarde - constructivism included
