This paper describes a new remote-sensing technique for monitoring landslides and unstable slopes; it is based on a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry and it is fully implemented by using portable ground-based instrumentation. The technique has been tested on a large rockslide in the Italian Alps producing multi-temporal deformation maps of high resolution and accuracy. The results have been validated through independent measurements obtained from geotechnical monitoring instrumentation.

Abstract

This paper describes a new remote-sensing technique for monitoring landslides and unstable slopes; it is based on a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry and it is fully implemented by using portable ground-based instrumentation. The technique has been tested on a large rockslide in the Italian Alps producing multi-temporal deformation maps of high resolution and accuracy. The results have been validated through independent measurements obtained from geotechnical monitoring instrumentation.
