The MI-SA-GA-TIM Rite at Ebla

Edizione di un testo appartenente all'Archivio Reale di Ebla (odierna Tell Mardikh), datato al 2350 a.C. circa e composto da otto frammenti già editi precedentemente in varie pubblicazioni. Dallo studio del testo, ricostruito da Amalia Catagnoti al Museo di Idlib (Siria), emerge che il termine mi-sa-ga-ti/tim non deve più essere interpretato come nome proprio di persona, trattandosi invece di una grafia che identifica due termini del lessico eblaita in rapporto genitivale. È dunque possibile attribuire alla formula "in ud mi-sa-ga-tim en" un significato preciso, vale a dire "quando avviene il rito del bacio della mano del re". Nella documentazione eblaita questo evento occorre un’unica volta ed il riferimento potrebbe essere alla cerimonia del conferimento della regalità al principe Yishar-Damu. The study of the text, pieced together by Amalia Catagnoti at the Idlib Museum (Syria), shows that the writing mi-sa-ga-ti/tim is no more to be interpreted as a personal name; rather, this spelling refers to two terms of the Eblaic lexicon in genitival relation. Therefore, the formula "in ud mi-sa-ga-tim en" can be precisely understood as "when the rite of the kiss of the king’s hand (is / was performed)". In the Ebla documentation this event occurs only once and it may refer to the ceremony with which the kingship was conferred to prince Yishar-Damu. Section 1 is Amalia Catagnoti's.
