Peer reviewed paper. Since Karl Pearson write his paper on spurious correaltions in 1897, a lot has been said about the statistical analysis of compositional data, mainly by geologists suche as Felix Chayes. The solution appeared in the 1980's, when Jophn Aitchison proposed to use logratios. This book will be of interest to geologists using statisticalmethodology, convincing through case studies and presenting user-friendly software, whioch includes a section fro those who need to see the proof of the matheamtical consistency of the methods used.

Abstract

Peer reviewed paper. Since Karl Pearson write his paper on spurious correaltions in 1897, a lot has been said about the statistical analysis of compositional data, mainly by geologists suche as Felix Chayes. The solution appeared in the 1980's, when Jophn Aitchison proposed to use logratios. This book will be of interest to geologists using statisticalmethodology, convincing through case studies and presenting user-friendly software, whioch includes a section fro those who need to see the proof of the matheamtical consistency of the methods used.
