The chapter reviews the experience of several developing countries in the field of macroeconomic policies. It concentrates first on the problems of the orthodox Washington Consenus approach. It then discusses new policies which have been shown to be simultaneously pro-growth and pro-poor. Such policies have evolved in selected countries in recent times and have increasingly been included in new theoretical approaches to macroeconomics.
