Research dealing with landslide hazard assessment often focuses on the relationships between parameters affecting the slope instability process. This leads researchers to evaluate the relative influence of each factor such as land-use, slope gradient and lithology. This way of operating is sometimes subjective. In this chapter, a statistically based methodology is presented for establishing an objective ranking within the classes of the parameters and among the parameters themselves. A new method of variable definition is presented, using dimensionless ratios based on actual landslides occurring in the different classes of the parameters.

Abstract
Research dealing with landslide hazard assessment often focuses on the relationships between parameters affecting the slope instability process. This leads researchers to evaluate the relative influence of each factor such as land-use, slope gradient and lithology. This way of operating is sometimes subjective. In this chapter, a statistically based methodology is presented for establishing an objective ranking within the classes of the parameters and among the parameters themselves. A new method of variable definition is presented, using dimensionless ratios based on actual landslides occurring in the different classes of the parameters.I documenti in FLORE sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
