Recent literature pointed out interesting biological properties of chicoric acid, in particular anti-HIV-1 activity [1]. Due to the low cost and a wide availability, the chicory leaves from cv. Catalogna were chosen as best raw material to prepare a phenolic-enriched extract with a high content of (+) chicoric acid. The efficacy of this extract together with the (+) chicoric acid against Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) was evaluated in cultured cells by the method previously described
