La pianta centrale - The central floor plan

The text is part of a collective work presented by Italian foreign affairs Ministry for the Expo 2010 in Shanghai, focusing the tradition of the central plan building as long lived issue in the classical mediterranean architecture. The central plan layout is not a paradigm repeating itself, but a building type able to modify itself site specifically, according to analogy and spontaneous association, yet able to qualify with its peculiarity the places to inhabits. Samples: Pantheon, a burial chamber in Cassino, the via Appia and his sepulchres,at the beginning. Than from Villa Adriana to S. Lorenzo in Milan passing through Tessaloniki, Byzanz, Spalatro, and then to Rapahel and his marriage of the virgin. Central plan: a configuration of the space able to enact a geometrical order analogue to the cosmic order structuring the whole physical space. text’s language: italian, english, chinese
