The Christian-Catholic liberal tradition about food preferences (eating everything, eating with everybody) does not exclude that some religious prescriptions (though limited) exist. However, the analysis of the universal and more specific Canon law concerning abstinence and fasting (with the specificity of the Eucharistic fast), suggests that these rules have a peculiar meaning that transcends the food dimension and is part of a path to a more intense spiritual training to communion with God. In light of this interpretation (the “Christian sense”) of the applicable law, an attempt is made to interpret some recent choices of local jurisdictions of the Catholic Church and the adoption of some measures by the political authority.

Abstract
The Christian-Catholic liberal tradition about food preferences (eating everything, eating with everybody) does not exclude that some religious prescriptions (though limited) exist. However, the analysis of the universal and more specific Canon law concerning abstinence and fasting (with the specificity of the Eucharistic fast), suggests that these rules have a peculiar meaning that transcends the food dimension and is part of a path to a more intense spiritual training to communion with God. In light of this interpretation (the “Christian sense”) of the applicable law, an attempt is made to interpret some recent choices of local jurisdictions of the Catholic Church and the adoption of some measures by the political authority.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
