The contribution analyses the recent trends in the regulation of cost and fee in Italian civil procedure in comparative perspective. Namely, three themes are covered: the judicial power to decide that each party bears her own costs, the impact of the emergence of the notion of abuse of process on cost and fee allocation, and the tensions deriving from the trend towards liberalization in this market.
