2.2 - La lavorazione degli elementi strutturali del tetto

In the church of Santa Maria Nuova there are 9 wooden trusses, which were processed principally as “Uso Fiume”, that means a square edged log with natural wanes and the same nominal section at the bottom and the top of the timber element. Many elements, especially from the ties and king posts, were processed as squared edge. There are numerous signs of reworking. In fact there are many breaks in the king post and the rafters, and even in the ties in the portions which are not visible because inserted in the church walls. Some items still show signs which are due to assembling the wood elements evidently after restoration works carried out in past centuries. The position of some breaks and special working in the secondary framework of the roof suggests that the elements have been deeply reworked, and little remained of the original structure of the roof.
