Abstract

Recording is a key activity in the conservation menagement of cultural heritage and documentation projects are particularly important when heritage is, for wathever reason, in a precarious state. Conservation-related information is usually obtained from multi-disciplinary research activities, as this project shows. In project teams with multi-disciplinary expertise, geomatic techniques can be used to build a framework that allows all members to meaningfully partecipate both in investigative procedures and in project development and application. Metric documentation of cultural heritagerequires a thorough understanding and careful observation of the site and suitable graphic restitution of data collected, as well as dimensional quantification using appropriate instruments. In order to support the project an high amount of data has been collected in a short period of time. In Tartous the pubblic spaces in the Citadel, the Knights' Chapel, the system of galleries and a portion of the second set of city walls; in Tyre approx. 100 m of the promenade archéologique have been surveyed.
