The paper describes the masterplanning process within the European International Workshop ELIR 11 on the selected site of ‘s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands. On the area, named ‘Het Zand’ along the Zuid-Willemsvaart Canal, are located many former industrial buildings of great architectural significance. The proposals aimed at the reinterpretation of the features existing on the site. The design team recognized that the former industrial area is disconnected from the city centre and the surroundings. The paper shows the proposed Masterplan that is based in a grid making the most of the orientation of the streets and celebrating the focal point views of the site. Mainly, the Plan provided exploring significant linkages and connectivity for pedestrian (vehicles and boats) and the design of clear spaces between the buildings for stimulating activities, while proposing new functions for people to live, work, walk and enjoy.
