Abstract
The article aims to demonstrate the great and multifaceted importance of prepositions in the study and reconstruction of ancient languages, in particular in the most archaic Semitic languages, Akkadian and Eblaite. Indeed, prepositions are the first elements of speech, apart from PNs and GNs, written syllabically around the mid 3rd millennium BC, and thus allowing a correct understanding of the relations among different parts of the sentence. Besides their semantic function, this fact also makes them the central, and often the only elements allowing us to determine the linguistic affiliation of a text. But, though prepositions cannot often be considered as certain isoglosses, nonetheless they may also give important information in this regard, as the occurrences of ana analyzed here clearly show.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
