ABSTRACT. In recent years the coast of Romagna has been the object of numerous studies on liquefaction risk, promoted by the Emilia-Romagna Region. The results of these studies have shown that this area is characterized by the seismic and the geotechnical conditions such that the phenomena of liquefaction could occur there during strong earthquakes. In addition, the historical survey has indicated that several effects of past earthquakes described at the time by witnesses can be interpreted as liquefaction indices. Besides having a high population density, the coast of Romagna abounds in numerous monuments, some of which have a very high artistic value (for example, the Malatestian Temple in Rimini). The Emilia-Romagna Region has collected and digitalised more than 1000 CPTs, that had been carried out in this area in recent years. The Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Florence which has received all of the digitalised data, has seen to processing them and to drawing up a map of the liquefaction risk. The results of the above research are presented in the paper.
