The essay is part of a research in the field of emerging figures in the study of descriptive geometry. Guidobaldo, Marquis del Monte (1545–1607) developed theories of mechanics by concentrating on the importance of Archimedes’ teachings and focusing on a rigorously geometrical approach to issues, never forgetting consistent observation of experience. He investigated perspective thoroughly and was able to highlight some of its unique aspects as well as the topical value of others. The chapter, written at the invitation of M. Cigola, analyzes the figure of Guidobaldo Marchese Dal Monte, a scholar of both mechanics and projective geometry. An exursus on his works highlights the importance of his studies and the discoveries made that have placed an extra piece in the field of descriptive geometry. Abstract

(Serie History of Mechanism and Machine Science, Volume 30. Series editor: Marco Ceccarelli, Cassino, Italy).
