The paper focuses on the grammar acquisition of German L2 by Italian native speakers in Foreign Language Teaching. It describes the outcome of an experiment conducted with Italian students of German L2 attending the BA course in Foreign Languages and Literatures. The aim was to study the connexion between acquisition stages and learning strategies, foregrounding morphological and syntactic difficulties emerging in written works (free compositions). On the basis of the results, useful advice for teaching German L2 is suggested.
