The Role of Water and Climate Change in the Conservation of Historic Gardens of Central Italy

The consequences of global climate change are also clearly apparent in the Berlin-Brandenburg region: extreme weather events with storms and cloudbursts, and increasingly frequent droughts, are new environmental phenomena that affect the conservation and care of the gardens in the World Heritage Site, ‘Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin’, and other historic gardens. ‘Historic Gardens and Climate Change – Recommendations for Preservation’ addresses these issues. Experts in the most various fields present the effects of climate change on historic gardens in national and international comparison. A further focus is on preservation strategies for heritage gardens and cultural landscapes, such as ways of optimising soil and water use, and of improving plants’ resilience and adaptability to the new conditions.
