Da Latife Tekin a Orhan Pamuk Migrazione interna, neo-liberismo, nazione

In this essay my aim is to combine the autobiographical traces within the trilogy on internal migration by Latife Tekin and the recent novel, A Strangness in My Mind by Orhan Pamuk. These novels will be analysed also to understand the dynamics of change produced by the internal migrations in the history of the Republic. In the context of neo-liberal policies introduced in the 1980s internal migration assumed different patterns and produced new effects. In Tekin’s case, the poor peasant migrants found themselves unexpectedly empowered, although with a loss of meaning and of sense of self. Pamuk who in his novel identifies himself with his emigrant protagonist Mevlut, tries to understand the loss of a certain model of urban civilization and of the nation.
