Typical village of the Tuscan archipelago, Marciana Marina extends over a bay that probably, since ancient times, was used as a port for trade, primarily iron, extracted in the north-western part of the Elba’s island. The Port was later also used for the trade of the wine and the agricultural products that were produced in this area. Because of the effect of alluvial deposits, the roadstead today it is less pronounced than in the past and it is therefore more subject to the influence of marine currents and winds. The first settlement of that place was the sighting tower built in the twelfth century, called tower of the Appiani, located on the cliff west of the plain. The survey of this construction was carried out between the end of 2007 and the beginning of 2008, using laser scanner technology, also integrating some parts realized through the direct survey, performed to cover the shadow cones generated in some small parts. At the beginning, the photogrammetric restitution of the fronts of this circular-shaped building posed many doubts of realization, resolved using a special protocol for the restitution of frescoed surfaces on the vaults. Towards the end of 2016, new ortho images were realized using 3D Mesh models with Relevant Methodologies from Structure from Motion (SFM) technologies. This new type of survey processing in 3D format, also allowed us to verify the adherence of the new photogrammetric survey to the previous laser scanner survey.

Abstract
This new type of survey processing in 3D format, also allowed us to verify the adherence of the new photogrammetric survey to the previous laser scanner survey.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
