The work presented highligh strengths and weaknesses of second- ary school teacher education, with reference to the development of inclusive competences proposed as the focus on which to invest long-term resources (De Vorey, Lecheval & Watkins, 2022). The methodology adopted is mixed methods evaluation research de- sign, aimed at the exploration and validation of quantitative results collected over a two-year period of research within the postgradu- ate teacher trainee at the University of Florence and to the expla- nation and integration of the data. The main outcome is the development of an evaluation and self-assessment tool for teachers (IRSSA - Inclusive Rating Scale for Self-Assessment) and the defi- nition of dimensions contributing to the development of inclusive competences. The impact of the research concern teachers and school managers who can address their training strategies and to guide local policies according to the criteria of equity, inclusiveness and sustainability.
