From Se questo è un uomo to La Notte dei Girondini and back. Some reflections on Primo Levi in Dutch

This chapter analyzes Primo Levi's thought about the role of reflection in his struggle against dehumanization in Auschwitz, as described in his Se questo e' un uomo and describes how the best known Dutch translation of the work overemphasizes this aspect of Levi's thought. It also discusses how Levi, in the last phase of his life, had less faith in the strength of the mind in face of oppression and trauma. His love for the Dutch book De Nacht der Girondijnen illustrates this change.
