This essay examines the small but significant presence of madrigals by the Flemish composer Giaches Wert in the madrigal anthologies published by Phalèse in Antwerp. Particular attention is given to two madrigals based on octaves from «Orlando Furioso», focusing specifically on their connections to the tradition of “arie per cantar ottave.”
