This paper extends the modelling approach toward the laws for wear prediction, by including the effect of ambient temperature. We firstly perform wear tests in the laboratory with varied hardness ratios and under different ambient temperature. Then according to the experimental results, we propose new wear laws and determined corresponding coefficients in the formulas. Proposed new wear laws are validated through a numerical example based on a railway metro line application. Comparison between the simulated results and in-field measurements shows that the results from the simulation are well consistent with those from field measurements.

Abstract

This paper extends the modelling approach toward the laws for wear prediction, by including the effect of ambient temperature. We firstly perform wear tests in the laboratory with varied hardness ratios and under different ambient temperature. Then according to the experimental results, we propose new wear laws and determined corresponding coefficients in the formulas. Proposed new wear laws are validated through a numerical example based on a railway metro line application. Comparison between the simulated results and in-field measurements shows that the results from the simulation are well consistent with those from field measurements.
