This study investigates the architectural history and spatial evolution of “La Bussola”, an iconic leisure venue located in Le Focette, Marina di Pietrasanta. While famously celebrated as a central cultural landmark of post-war Italian entertainment under Sergio Bernardini, its architectural origins have historically remained under-researched. Based on archival documents, this paper reconstructs the design process carried out between 1946 and 1948 by the Florentine studio composed of Nello Baroni, Maurizio Tempestini, and Pietro Porcinai. The original design synthesized architecture, interiors, and landscape through natural materials and a subtle integration with the coastal landscape. The study examines initial regulatory disputes with the Superintendence and traces the subsequent physical transformations – including the 1952 covered dance floor and structural additions – where evolving commercial functions gradually overrode the original architectural layout.

Abstract
The study examines initial regulatory disputes with the Superintendence and traces the subsequent physical transformations – including the 1952 covered dance floor and structural additions – where evolving commercial functions gradually overrode the original architectural layout.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
