Postpartum hemorrhage is the principal cause of maternal mortality. Up to 250,000 women a year die as a result of the condition, and yet most of these deaths could be avoided. The knowledge necessary to manage the condition effectively already exists, so that today most women die from this condition in childbirth not because the knowledge to save them is unknown, but rather because that knowledge has not been effectively transferred to the medical professionals and others whose role is to care for mothers in childbirth. This book is the only comprehensive textbook available on postpartum hemorrhage. The first edition created a great impact when published in 2006 and has been very widely read and used around the world, with some 15,000 copies distributed to less resourced countries and with the text appearing in a number of foreign language editions.
